Life Lessons

life lessons a

I took a class at the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the UofMN. In groups we had to figure out individually then as a group the following:

  1. Fear is an illusion (mostly).
  2. Prioritize family and friends.
  3. Things gather dust. Purchase mindfully.
  4. Simplify. Declutter.
  5. Prioritize meaningful experiences.
  6. Failure is good. Learn from it and move on.
  7. Anger is unhealthy and isn’t worth it.
  8. Grudges cause pain.
  9. Worry or pain will pass.
  10. Exercise has the power to make us physically and emotionally stronger.
  11. Be appreciative. Gratitude multiplies happiness.
  12. Learn to compromise.
  13. Have a generous spirit.
  14. Decide what makes life worth living and aim for that.
  15. Change is good. Life is change.
  16. Negative and limiting thoughts aren’t real.
  17. Thoughts can become our reality if we let them.
  18. Whatever we think we can’t handle, we actually can.
  19. Self-honesty is freedom. Denial blinds us to the truth.
  20. Learning is forever: it keeps our minds engaged into old age.
  21.  Forgiveness is powerful.
  22. It’s never too late. Make everyday count.
  23. Action is the cure for worry.
  24. Release attachments.
  25. Change happens.
  26. Be prepared for opportunities.
  27. Diversify your knowledge.
  28. Have goals.
  29. Build connections.
  30. Give credit to others.
  31. Don’t judge.
  32. Listen more than talk.
  33. Words matter.
  34. Be a positive influence.
  35. Practice empathy.

Angela Grey is an Indigenous novelist, poet, and painter whose work explores the intersections of memory, identity, and healing. She, formerly an architectural drafter, studied creative writing, as well as spirituality and healing, at the University of Minnesota, where she deepened her commitment to storytelling as both an art and a form of medicine. Alongside her writing, Angela finds balance in yoga and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which shape the reflective quality of her work. She lives in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, with her husband, one spirited pup, and four cats. When she’s not writing, she enjoys camping, budget travel to places like Maine, Oregon, and the coastal Carolinas, and gathering with family around a BBQ grill.
